A collision involving two vehicles briefly disrupted traffic north of Masterton soon after lunchtime yesterday.
Masterton police Senior Constable Harvey Pope said a car with two elderly women occupants had been heading north on SH2 behind the other vehicle, which was being driven by a young driver with passengers of a similar age.
The younger driver had slowed his vehicle to turn right into Lennies Rd and the elderly woman driver had attempted to overtake without realising the lead vehicle was turning.
The cars collided and the vehicle carrying the elderly woman was thrown on impact across the opposing lane and into a roadside ditch.
Firefighters and an ambulance also attended the scene and some of the younger people involved in the collision had been assessed for injury.
