KEY POINTS:
Emergency services are at the scene of a fatal collision between a car and truck on State Highway 2 on the Rimutaka Hill in the Wairarapa.
The collision happened about a third of the way up the hill, on the Featherston side, police said.
State Highway 2 was closed and may be until later this afternoon as a crane was needed to lift the truck back onto its wheels before it could be removed from the hill, Inspector Peter Stokes of the police central communications centre said.
Motorists travelling between Wellington and the Wairapapa were advised to go via the Manawatu Gorge, near Palmerston North.
This could spell lengthy delays for those attending today's Wings Over Wairarapa airshow at Masterton's Hood Aerodrome.
