State Highway 2 has reopened following a four-vehicle crash at Whakamārama that injured six people.
Emergency services were alerted about 12.20pm, a police spokesperson said.
“It appears six people were involved, with one person in a moderate to serious condition, and the others with minor to moderate injuries.
“The road was closed near Francis Rd and motorists were advised to expect delays,” the spokesperson earlier said.
Traffic was reported to be backed up in the area.
NZ Transport Agency reported at 2.35pm the highway had reopened.
A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said three ambulances and one rapid response unit went to the scene and two people, one in a serious condition and one in a moderate condition, were being taken to Tauranga Hospital.
Two people in minor condition were assessed and treated at the scene.
