Motorists travelling between Auckland and Helensville will be diverted off State Highway 16 to roads above Waimauku for much of today because of Ngati Whatua chief Sir Hugh Kawharu's funeral.
Transit NZ has organised a detour between Waimauku and Helensville from about 10am until late this afternoon.
It wants to reserve the highway for local residents and up to 5000 people expected to attend the funeral.
