State Highway 1 is heavily congested after a car crash on the Kapiti Coast this afternoon.
The road had earlier been closed in both directions, and has since reopened, but police are warning drivers can expect "significant delays".
"Although SH1 has since reopened, there are still severe delays - particularly for northbound traffic. The earlier diversion route over Paekakariki Hill Road is also heavily congested," police said.
Two vehicles collided on SH1 Coast Rd, near Fishermans Table.
One person was earlier believed to be trapped. Paramedics have since taken two people to Wellington Hospital - one in a serious condition and one in a moderate condition.
