State Highway 1 at Paremata, north of Porirua, was reopened in time for the evening rush-hour after being closed since this morning following an accident.
A truck and trailer unit rolled on a roundabout shortly before 8am blocking one of the two northbound lanes.
Both northbound lanes were later closed for several hours while a crane was brought in to haul the truck back on to its wheels.
Police said the driver was unhurt.
