KEY POINTS:
State Highway 1 has reopened at Orewa, 40km north of Auckland, after a fatal car crash that claimed one life this afternoon.
The highway had previously been closed in both directions.
Inspector William Taylor of the police northern communications centre said Waitemata police's serious crash unit was investigating.
Mr Taylor said details of the person who died were not yet available.
