Emergency services are in attendance at a truck versus truck crash that has just occurred on SH1 approximately 500 metres south of Waikanae.
One truck, carrying a second truck on its trailer, has struck the side of a river bridge and then subsequently been struck by the second truck coming from the opposite direction.
No injuries have been reported.
The resulting crash has blocked both north and south bound lanes of SH1.
Staff scene report that there is considerable debris on the road and expect both lanes to be closed for some hours. There will be considerable delays as there are no detours in this area.
An alternative route to get to or from the Wellington region would be via the Akatarawa Road. Access to this from Waikanae is off Elizabeth Street, on to Reikorangi Road and through to Akatarawa Road.
