KEY POINTS:
State Highway One at Silverdale has re-opened after a car versus truck crash this morning.
The accident happened at the intersection of Tavern Road, near the Silverdale shops.
Serious crash unit senior sergeant Bill Russell said it appears that a truck heading north was trying to turn into Tavern Road "and clipped a car coming down the road".
Mr Russell said there was a ricochet that caused damage to another car.
He said one person was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries but he hasn't been updated on the person's condition yet.
Silverdale station officer Ken Lousley said one person had to be cut from a car and was taken to hospital.
Mr Lousley said the person was conscious.
He said there were airbags in the other two vehicles and their injuries were not as serious.
Three fire trucks, two ambulances and police were at the crash scene that happened shortly after 7am this morning.
Traffic was being diverted through Tavern Road and East Coast Road and it was initially said the road could be closed until mid-day.
Orewa-bound traffic was being diverted along SH1A.
