SH1 at Goose Bay reopens

State Highway 1 in the South Island, south of Kaikoura, has reopened after a large slip closed the road in both directions last night.

The slip happened about 10pm between the two road tunnels just north of Goose Bay, 16km south of Kaikoura, but police and the New Zealand Transport Agency said the road had now reopened.

Police also warned motorists to be wary of slips in the Coromandel following overnight rain.
