A Motueka man who targeted and indecently assaulted young back packers will spend six and a half years in jail.
Bernard Phillips was sentenced in the Nelson District Court today for abduction for sex, unlawful sexual connection, assault with a weapon and indecent assault.
Detective Steve Arnold says Phillips targeted women staying at backpackers and would pick them up hitch hiking.
He says he knew they would be leaving the country within a short time, which increased the likelihood of getting away with it.
