Police are appealing for information regarding a prolonged sexual assault on a man following a party in Hamilton.
The 25-year-old was walking along Avalon Dr from Baverstock Rd between 1.30am-2.30am on Saturday when he was grabbed from behind by another male as he crossed the Rifle Range Rd intersection.
Sexual attacks in which men are the victims are rare, and the weekend assault has shocked police officers.
Police are appealing for public help in catching the attacker. They have no description of him and are unable to check CCTV cameras because the assault happened in a semi-industrial area.
Detective Sergeant Andy Bu Bear, of Hamilton CIB, said a police patrol found the man wandering distressed in the west of the city about 4am.
"He came to their attention near the intersection of Norton and Rifle Range Rds because of his distressed state. When the officers asked about his well-being the man said he had been sexually assaulted."
Mr Bu Bear said the victim told of being led to a vacant section where he was subjected to a prolonged sexual assault before his attacker left him.
The victim remained in the area walking around disoriented until he was found by police. Detectives are concerned he was unable to give a description of his attacker for them to work on, although he was not known to him.
Police would like to hear from any one who may have seen any males walking on Avalon Drive, Greenwood St, Lincoln Rd, Rifle Range Rd and Railside Ave between 1.30 and 4am Saturday morning.
Anyone with any information on what occurred is asked to contact Mr Bu Bear at the Hamilton Central Police on (07) 858-6200.
Alternatively, information can be left anonymously on the CrimeStoppers crimeline on 0800-555-111.
