Massey University is calling for participants for a sex addiction study.
The study aims to explore the types of personal and relationship patterns of people with and without out-of-control sexual behaviour (OOCSB) and aims to guide further research towards developing a treatment for OOCSB.
It is being run under the auspices of Sex Therapy New Zealand Ltd (STNZ).
The researchers are looking for New Zealanders aged over 18, with or without problematic sexual behaviour, to take part in the first stage of the project from now until July, which involves filling out an anonymous online questionnaire at www.sextherapy.co.nz.
The researchers said people with OOCSB might experience constant compulsions for sexual activity, which they pursued regardless of its consequences.
Often they do not find satisfaction in their sexual behaviour and its pursuit becomes destructive to themselves and others.
