Disgraced morals campaigner Graham Capill has been denied early release from prison.
Capill, former leader of the Christian Heritage Party and a former police prosecutor, preached on moral standards for more than a decade before being sentenced to nine years' jail in 2005 for the sexual abuse of children aged between 5 and 11.
In a decision released today by the Parole Board, Capill's latest bid for parole was rejected. The board said Capill still needed to get treatment in a programme for sex offenders.
"In the end the board concludes that if released now, with approximately four years and nine months of his sentence remaining, without the benefit of treatment.......Mr Capill would pose an undue risk to the safety of the community".
A close supporter of Capill told the Herald in August that he was resigned to being refused parole because he had not been able to get access to a treatment programme in prison that he needed to complete.
