MetService duty forecaster Oliver Druce said the long line of thunderstorms that caused the tornado were "long gone", leaving a low risk of more tornadoes although an outside chance remained from thunderstorms that were expected in Northland last night.
But the chance they would affect Auckland was still considered low, he said. Other parts of the country would have some unsettled weather.
Severe weather warnings were issued for Southland, Otago, Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay and with gale force winds spread over much of the North Island today.
Snow was expected to low levels over the deep south tomorrow, with the possibility of heavy falls above 300m.
Winds were also expected to reach gale-force for coastal parts of Southland and Otago on Monday and Tuesday.
