A severe weather warning has been issued for the Bay of Plenty with more heavy rain forecast for the region.
MetService said an active front over the upper North Island is forecast to move away to the east tonight with an associated deep low crossing central New Zealand during Thursday morning.

From 9am to midnight expect 70 to 90mm of rain in the ranges mainly east of Whakatane, with lesser amounts near the coast.
UP 15 to 25mm an hour is expected and thunderstorms are possible.
