Afterwards Misiluki demanded money from the traumatised woman. She recognised a tattoo of "Misiluki" on his arm and he was tracked to the family home in Otara by police dogs.
In a victim impact statement read to the court, the woman said she had moved to New Zealand for a safer life, but that had been ruined by the incident.
"The emotional violation has permanently damaged everything I have ever known and lived for. I don't see how we are going to recover. What he has done has shattered my and my family's life."
Judge Ajit Singh told Misiluki he went into the victim's home in the early hours of the morning "with the clear intention to have sexual intercourse with the victim".
"You took advantage of your knowledge of the family, knowing that the husband would not be at home. This involved violence, which is inherent in rape."
The horrific crime was dissected "piece by piece" on Samoan talkback radio after being revealed in the Herald on Sunday in January, defence lawyer Hermann Retzlaff said.
Misiluki's mother and father wept throughout the two-hour sentencing from the public gallery.
Misiluki stared out of the window at the Rainbow's End roller-coaster for much of the two-hour sentencing.
Judge Singh ordered alcohol and sexual offending counselling be part of Misiluki's rehabilitation.
An offer to meet for restorative justice was turned down by the victim.
