Seven points divide Labour and National in the latest political poll, which also has the ACT Party polling badly.
The National Business Review-Phillips Fox poll has Labour down one point to 43 per cent support.
National was up three points to 36 per cent support in the poll.
New Zealand First was on 8 per cent support, the Greens were on 5 per cent and United Future was on 3.8 per cent support.
The NBR said that not since March had ACT polled so badly, scoring 1.9 per cent support in this month's poll.
A year ago, a NBR poll had ACT on 3.8 per cent.
Political parties need 5 per cent of the party vote to secure seats in Parliament without winning an electorate.
Asked whether the country was on the right track, 59 per cent thought it was, 34 per cent thought it was on the wrong track, while 7 per cent were unsure.
The poll of 750 voters had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 per cent.
