One person died and three others were left with moderate to serious injuries after a car crashed on State Highway 14 in Northland about 5.45pm.
Police told the Herald the vehicle had rolled.
The road was closed as the serious crash unit invesitagated.
Early this morning, an Auckland taxi driver was killed after a drunk driver in a black Mercedes allegedly ran a red light and slammed into the man's car.
Abdul Raheem Fahad Syed, 29, of Avondale, died at the scene on Symonds St in the central city.
A 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged with drink-driving and other offences in relation to the collision.
Another two people were seriously injured in two separate crashes in Waikite Valley and Hamilton East.
