Only seven of the 121 MPs in Parliament are not property owners, while about 80 MPs own more than one property.
The latest register of MPs' financial interests shows seven MPs own no property, including Act leader David Seymour, National MPs Todd Barclay, Paul Foster-Bell and Simon O'Connor, Labour MP Peeni Henare, and Green MP James Shaw. Labour MP Rino Tirikatene did not list a family home but had a bare section at Ratana Pa and interests in Maori land.
About 80 MPs listed more than one property. Some of those were Wellington apartments, holiday homes and Maori land as well as the family home. The majority had rental or commercial properties as well.
Newcomers with significant holdings included Parmjeet Parmar, who listed four residential rental properties in Auckland and two commercial properties as well as the family home.
The rules changed last year to require MPs to disclose properties held by their superannuation trusts after an investigation by Keith Ng with the Herald revealed several held properties in those trusts which they did not previously have to declare.
