Seven people have been injured - one critically - in a two-car crash north of Wellington this afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the scene on State Highway 2 in Trentham, Upper Hutt, shortly before 1pm, Fire Service central communications shift manager David Meikle said.
A St John Ambulance spokeswoman said seven people were receiving treatment. One person was critically injured, two seriously, two received moderate injuries and two minor injuries.
Four ambulances were in attendance and a rescue helicopter was on its way to the scene.
Police said the road was closed between the Silverstream intersection and Gibbons St and there were likely to be significant delays as emergency services worked to clear the scene.
