Three crashes yesterday morning brought the weekend road toll to seven.
Daniel Lesley Revell, 23, of Hamilton, died and a young woman was seriously injured when a Subaru stationwagon crashed in Waikato.
Detective Sergeant Michele Moore said three others in the vehicle were not injured in the crash at Orini Rd, Whitikahu, 20km northeast of Hamilton, about 1am.
Mr Revell died at the scene, and the injured woman was taken to Waikato Hospital.
Napier man Alfred Grey, 65, was killed around 2am when his car missed a tight left-hand downhill bend on Hill Road, crashed through a wooden barrier, and came to rest in a stand of pine trees, about 20m from the road.
Sergeant Nigel Formosa of Napier police said Mr Grey, who was the sole occupant of the car, died at the scene.
One person died around 9am in a crash on State Highway 2 at Edgecumbe, 19km west of Whakatane.
It was thought the driver might have suffered a health crisis.
On Saturday morning, six-year-old Mariah Baker was killed instantly when a car driven by her mother collided with a truck and careered down a bank on State Highway 1 at Windy Ridge, 5km south of Warkworth, north of Auckland.
Mariah's 10-year-old brother, Hayden, was airlifted to Auckland's Starship Children's Hospital, where he was reported to be in a serious condition this morning.
The children's mother, Nadia Baker, and her partner, Shane Doggett, escaped serious injury.
On Saturday evening, a Greymouth man died after a car driven by a 16-year-old girl left the road on a moderate right-hand bend.
Steven James Mort, 28, one of two passengers in the Honda Civic, died in hospital of his injuries.
Inspector Clifford Paxton of Greymouth police said the crash happened about 7.45pm on State Highway 6 near the township of Runanga, 8km northeast of Greymouth.
The driver and a second 16-year-old girl were admitted to Grey Base Hospital with moderate injuries.
Three people were killed and several injured in separate crashes on Friday night.
One person was killed at 6.12pm after a car crashed into a pole on Route 72 at Winchester, north of Timaru.
Around 7pm, another person died in a crash in Hickford Street, Foxton, in the Horowhenua.
