A man with mental issues has been arrested after a ram-raid on Timaru police station left seven cars and a gate damaged at the weekend.
A Mitsubishi Lancer was driven through a security gate into the station's smashing into four cars before continuing into a courtyard and hitting three others, two of them police vehicles.
Acting Sergeant Marcus Dominey told the Timaru Herald the newspaper the incident was a shock, but nobody was hurt.
A 42-year-old Timaru man had been arrested and faced charges of criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon, a crowbar.
"He does have some mental problems and due to his mental issues that's why he's done it..."
