Seven arrested, firearms and meth charges laid after threat at Mākara, Wellington property

The firearm threat has prompted a slew of charges for seven men.

Seven men have been arrested on firearms charges after a person was reportedly threatened with a firearm.

Police said seven men were charged after the incident at a residential address in Mākara, Wellington yesterday at 1.50pm.

Five men aged 29, 40, 41, 45 and 49 have been charged with burglary and unlawfully possessing a pistol or restricted weapon.

A 39-year-old man has been charged with unlawfully carrying/possessing a firearm and discharging a firearm to intimidate and a 35-year-old man has been charged with receiving property over $1000, unlawfully possessing a firearm, and procuring/possessing methamphetamine.

Earlier, police had reported five arrests, and said three were found after leaving the property with a vehicle.

“Two other people who had fled the property on foot were subsequently located by police nearby and arrested.”

Police are investigating and the men are known to each other, a spokesperson said.

Nobody was injured.

Members of a local Facebook page described seeing police cars racing towards Mākara with lights and sirens, while others said police closed access to some local roads.
