Several high-profile tourist attractions are about to be handed back to Maori, in a $180 million Treaty settlement.
Treaty Negotiations Minister Chris Finlayson will ink a deal with Ngati Tuwharetoa in the next hour. It includes 34 blocks of land and reserves including Craters of the Moon, Tauhara geothermal spring, Huka Falls reserve and Taupo Landing Reserve.
There'll also be a Crown apology, and $16m in cash.
The settlement also includes a partnership agreement with the Department of Conservation to co-manage land including Tongariro National Park.
