Rail services between the Wellington and the Lower Hutt suburb of Taita are running normally today after a train fire last night closed the line.
Passengers had to be evacuated from the train at Petone Station after the fire was discovered in a heater about 6pm.
The Fire Service put out the fire, which was described by a KiwiRail spokeswoman as tiny.
"There was no smoke or flames that passengers were aware of," she told NZPA.
She said an investigation had begun into the cause of the fire.
