Firefighters are working to extract a seriously injured person trapped in an overturned people mover vehicle near Kaitaia.
Northern Fire Communications' shift manager Jaron Phillips said a second person had also received moderate injuries in the crash, which appeared to have occurred in a driveway on State Highway 1, about 12km east of Kaitaia.
Emergency services were called just before 4.15pm and two Kaitaia Volunteer Fire Brigade crews were working to help those in need.
