Serious head injury for bashed teen

A 17-year-old has been airlifted to Waikato Hospital with a serious head injury after an alleged bashing in Rotorua early this morning.

The teen was reportedly set upon by a group of youths about 3am while he was with friends in downtown Rotorua, Waikato Air Ambulance pilot Dan Harcourt said.

He was taken to Rotorua Hospital before being airlifted by the helicopter to Waikato Hospital, where he is in a serious condition.

Rotorua police were unavailable for comment.
