One person killed in Orewa, two car crash. Video / Will Trafford
A motorist has died in a serious two-car crash in Orewa, while emergency services are at the scene of another serious crash north of Taumarunui.
Police and ambulance are at the scene on State Highway 4 where a truck has reportedly crashed off the road into a paddock around 11.50am.
The Serious Crash Unit has been notified, a police spokeswoman said. It was unclear whether more vehicles had been involved in the incident, which happened between Opotiki Rd and Okaihae Rd.
St John said two ambulances had been sent to the scene and one person was treated but "no transport was required".
The road was expected to be closed for at least another hour.
The Serious Crash Unit was in attendance, police said. They were in the process of notifying the woman's next of kin.
The NZ Transport Agency said access to Grand Dr from State Highway was blocked.
Northbound SH1 traffic should use the Millwater (Wainui Rd) exit, while southbound SH1 traffic should continue south to Silverdale (Hibiscus Coast Hwy) exit to get to Orewa.
St John said three ambulances were sent to the scene. Two patients with moderate injuries had been treated.
