Emergency services are attending a serious crash on State Highway 6 at Tirau.
A New Zealand Transport Agency spokeswoman said the road was closed and traffic was being diverted to State Highway 5. She advised motorists to avoid the area, but if that route was essential, to expect delays.
It was unclear how many people and vehicles were involved in the crash or what injuries had been sustained.
