Two people were injured, one critically, in a crash after a driver fled from police in Lower Hutt tonight.
The incident occurred shortly before 8pm on High St in Taita and involved two cars, police said in a statement.
"Shortly before the crash police had tried to stop one of the vehicles involved however this driver has fled," the statement said. "The driver of the fleeing vehicle suffered moderate injuries and has been arrested."
Two people in the other vehicle were more seriously injured, one described as receiving critical injuries and the other serious injuries. Both were taken to hospital.
The police serious crash unit is investigating and the Independent Police Conduct Authority has been advised.
