Convicted serial sex offender Fanuaea Leatigaga will have to wait another two months to hear whether he will get an open-ended sentence of preventive detention.
The 20-year-old's defence counsel Serina Bailey asked for the delay to October when Leatigaga appeared for sentence in the High Court at Christchurch today.
She wants another psychiatrist to report on him before the sentencing goes ahead.
Justice Graham Pankhurst checked that Leatigaga -- who speaks limited English -- understood what was happening and accepted that the long sentencing delay was in his best interests.
The case has already been delayed so that psychiatric reports could be completed.
It is four months since Leatigaga, a process worker, pleaded guilty to two rapes, three charges of sexual violation, one of indecent assault, and two burglaries.
Justice Pankhurst remanded him in custody for sentence on October 19.
