Mahe Drysdale has beaten Rob Waddell after he was hit by a health problem in the third and final single sculls trial at the national rowing trials on Lake Karapiro.
The win gives Drysdale a 2-1 victory in the best-of-three trials and he is now likely to win selection for the only New Zealand berth in the single sculls at this year's Beijing Olympics.
Drysdale has suggested the selectors may consider other criteria when the team is named on Friday.
