The seminar — in association with the New Zealand Herald and the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) — will explain the technical reasons for the crisis
Among the keynote speakers are: Mighty River Power chief executive Doug Heffernan who will outline the risks and contingency plans that businesses face in the current electricity market; Vector Network chief executive Patrick Strange who will discuss the options line companies can deploy to ration electricity; Rob Harpur of New Zealand Tax and Fuel Consultants who will speak on risk management, Business New Zealand’s energy adviser Peter Whitehouse who will comment on the economic fall out likely from current and future power shortages, ECCA chief executive Heather Staley who will walk through the authority’s subsidised energy audit scheme, as well as sustainable energy conservation strategies and Graeme Perfect, an employment consultant with the EMA, who will discuss the ramifications of power shortages or cuts on employment relations agreements, holidays and health and safety issues.
