Advice on how to "go green" with a $350 cardboard coffin when you die is being offered in Auckland next week.
The coffin will be discussed at a seminar at University of Auckland School of Engineering, demonstrating how people people can help the environment
Funeral director Deb Cairns will tell the seminar on 29 November about the environmental and the actual costs of conventional and green funerals.
On her website Ms Cairns said a simple green cardboard casket would cost $350.
She said as well as traditional wooden caskets they also offered a willow cane casket lined with unbleached calico and with a wool mattress, small willow baby caskets and caskets made from recycled paper.
The seminar will also cover other green issues, including how to build a green community, how to buy green, invest green, eat green, be a green school, dispose green, renovate green, be green parents, grow green, market green, and design green houses.
