Security guards were robbed while restocking a bank ATM in Levin this afternoon, police said.
An area of the Levin shopping mall car park has been cordoned off after Armourguard staff were robbed as they went to replenish cash in the ANZ machine.
Police say at 2pm the two guards left an armoured vehicle with a canister of cash, when a car with an unknown number of occupants pulled up near the van.
One or two got out and snatched the canister, got back in the waiting car and drove off at speed.
Police patrols are searching Levin for the getaway vehicle, while detectives and uniform staff are talking to witnesses.
