A Hawke's Bay security guard was attacked last night after he stopped outside a party because he thought someone needed help.
Two men had been arrested over the "cowardly" and "unprovoked attack", said Detective Constable Sally Patrick, of Hastings CIB.
The 29-year-old security guard was driving past a party in Hastings about 11.30pm last night when he thought someone needed helped and stopped, Ms Patrick said.
He was then dragged from his car and punched and kicked .
A woman, known to the offenders, stopped the attack, Ms Patrick said.
A 20-year-old man has been charged with injuring with intent to injure and an 18-year-old man has been charged with injuring with intent to injure and wilful damage.
They will appear in Hastings District Court on Thursday.
