Noah McDonald enjoys time on his scooter, gifted to him in a random act of kindness by two unnamed Whangarei poilice officers.
A little boy has been left chuffed by a random act of kindness from two police officers who donned their secret Santa hats for him.
Four-year-old Noah MacDonald, accompanied by dad Adam MacDonald, was riding his scooter along the Riverside Dr portion of the Onerahi cycleway last Sunday, when thepair waved to a passing police car.
Half an hour later the police, a male officer and a female officer, returned and struck up a conversation with the MacDonalds.
Mum Kelsie MacDonald said the police praised Noah for wearing a helmet.
"Then they went and grabbed a new scooter from the car and said 'Santa told us to buy you a new one'," Mrs MacDonald said.
Whangarei Kaipara acting area commander Inspector Al Symonds said the officers wanted to remain anonymous.
"The identity of the secret Santas is still a secret," he said. "All I can say is that they would not have done what they did to get into the news. We have a lot of good people in the police and we are proud of all the work they do."
Mrs MacDonald said she wanted to publicise the incident as police were often criticised, but did a lot of good work.
