KEY POINTS:
A Rotorua woman was attacked and stabbed in her garage just a week after a similar attack in the region.
The woman was at her home in Turquoise Place, Homedale, with her two children around 2pm on Saturday.
She walked into her garage and was knocked unconscious and woke to discover a stab wound to her stomach.
Police said that while the woman had not suffered serious injury, they were concerned about the nature of the attack.
The incident mirrored another knife attack reported a week earlier.
A woman was hit from behind then slashed across the stomach by a suspected thief at her Kaharoa home, north of Rotorua.
She was also knocked unconscious and woke to see her knife wound.
Detective Mahara Alcock of the Rotorua CIB told the Rotorua Daily Post that while the attacks had to be treated as separate cases the similarities were obvious and police were investigating a possible connection.
