KEY POINTS:
A woman is in hospital with hand injuries after an industrial accident at New Plymouth's Taranaki Recyclers - the second at the site in two months.
The 45-year-old's right hand got trapped between a conveyor belt and a roller about 2pm yesterday. She was in a satisfactory condition in Taranaki Base Hospital last night.
The Department of Labour has shut the conveyor down until it meets required safety standards.
On April 22, 36-year-old production manager Ben Hekenui's legs were severed when he fell into a paper baling machine at the plant.
Taranaki Recyclers spokesman Grant Lester refused to talk about the accident yesterday.
Department of Labour Taranaki service manager Brett Murray confirmed they were investigating the latest accident.
"A worker's hand was injured in a conveyor belt. At this stage we can't confirm anything else," he told the Taranaki Daily News.
"A prohibition notice has been issued, meaning the conveyor can't be used until required changes have been made."
