The second quarter was the "killer" for Harcourts when they completed their 2009 regional superleague netball campaign with a 61-47 loss to Kapi Mana at Porirua on Saturday.
Harcourts looked right in the game at the end of the first quarter, at which stage they were level pegging at 13-13, but by the time the second quarter had finished Kapi Mana had established a 10-goal advantage and the bird had flown.
"We actually competed well in all but that one quarter, it was the killer for us," Harcourts coach Kelly Sargent said.
"We took a few bad options and they capitalised, that was about it."
Centre Katie Wyeth had her usual busy game for Harcourts, shining on both attack and defence, and the two newcomers to the squad from the Trevs premier two side, Lisa Goldsworthy and Lisa Hannam, both acquitted themselves creditably.
Meanwhile Kuranui College have made the grand final of the Wairarapa premier one netball competition for the second successive season.
They came from behind at the end of the third quarter to beat Gladstone All Blacks 39-31 in their semi-final at the Genesis Recreation Centre on Friday night.
Kuranui were beaten by Harcourts in the competition decider last year and this time they will be up against Celtic on Monday week.
That match will come on the end of a busy schedule which will see them playing something like 14 matches at the lower North Island secondary schoolgirls championships in Gisborne over the next five days.
