An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale struck Fiordland at 12.25pm today.
The quake was centred 40km north-west of Te Anau at a depth of 80km.
GNS Science said it was felt in Queenstown and was likely to have been felt elsewhere in Fiordland.
Another earthquake, measuring
4 on the Richter scale jolted parts of the South Island West Coast early this morning.
That quake, at 4am, was centred 60km south of Hokitika at a depth of 2km, GNS Science said.
