A 4.5 magnitude earthquake has struck off the East Coast this afternoon.
GNS Science said the quake struck 40km south-east of Tolaga Bay at a depth of 33km at 1.39pm.
It would have been felt in the Hawke's Bay region.
A quake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale also struck the East Coast at 10.29am today.
The quake was centred 50km east of Gisborne at a depth of 33km, GNS Science reported.
