A second person has died overnight following a serious crash between a car and a van in Cromwell last night.
The woman was one of three backseat passengers who sustained serious injuries in the accident and were flown to Dunedin Hospital.
The male driver was killed, and a front seat male passenger was taken to Dunstan Hospital with moderate injuries.
Police said the car, a grey sedan, collided with a courier van at the intersection of State Highway 8b and SH6, near Nichols Garden Centre, at 5.45pm.
The sole occupant of the courier van received only minor injuries in the crash, and she was not taken to hospital.
