KEY POINTS:
A second man is due to appear in court today over an attack in South Auckland at the weekend that left a man with severe head injuries.
Police said the victim of the beating, Tautu Cecil, remained in a critical condition in hospital.
The second accused, a 20-year-old male security guard, was listed to appear in Papakuara District Court, charged with assaulting Mr Cecil.
Detective Inspector Mark Gutry said police would oppose bail.
A 21-year-old unemployed man appeared in court on Wednesday, also charged with assault, and was remanded until a further date.
Mr Gutry said further arrests were possible and more serious charges could follow.
Mr Cecil, 19, was attacked in Papakura early on Sunday morning.
Police found him unconscious after responding to reports of fighting near netball courts.
