KEY POINTS:
Police investigating the fatal drive-by shooting of a Matamata man last Sunday have charged a second man with murder.
Desmond Arahanga died after being shot four times from a weapon fired from a moving vehicle as he stood with a group of friends on McGowan St in Waharoa, 7km north of Matamata, early on Sunday morning.
Police said today that following widespread publicity Hari Beaudean Poulson, 26, surrendered himself to police in Mangere, Auckland, last night.
He had been charged with murdering Mr Arahanga and would appear in Hamilton District Court today.
Jared Apiata, 23, was yesterday charged with Mr Arahanga's murder.
He appeared in Hamilton District Court on Monday accused of assaulting Mr Arahanga.
He has been remanded in custody until August 5.
Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Nicholls said today while investigators were pleased they had been able to bring charges against two men as a result of Sunday's shooting there was plenty of work still to be done.
"As we highlighted yesterday there are indications that there were more people in the car at the time of the shooting which is the main focus of our inquiry today," he said.
"I would like to reiterate that this is a murder inquiry and that anyone harbouring people related to this incident face very serious consequences."
Mr Nicholls said the family of father-of-two Mr Arahanga have been told of the second arrest.
Mr Arahanga's funeral is being held today.
