KEY POINTS:
Searchers believe they may have found a glider that went missing in the lower South Island late yesterday with two people aboard.
A huge air search resumed at first light this morning for the powered glider last heard from about 5.30pm yesterday, four hours after taking off in a competition from Omarama, about 119km northwest of Oamaru.
Rescue Co-ordination Centre New Zealand (RCCNZ) Steve Corbett told NZPA searchers believed they had found the glider about 2pm.
"We think we've found it. We're trying to gather what information we can to confirm," he said.
Mr Corbett said he was unsure if the glider was intact and could not say anything about the occupants.
"We're all in a bit of a flap trying to find out exactly what they did see and what is there."
