Searchers are combing the South Dunedin coast for a man in his early 60s missing since last night.
His car was found near the top of a cliff and considering the circumstances there were fears for his safety, Sergeant Bruce Ross of Dunedin police told NZPA.
He was reported missing about 7.30pm yesterday and his car was found around midnight. Searchers had been out on the ground since 4.30am and an inflatable boat would be put out at first light.
The searchers are concentrating on an cliff area between Tomahawk and Smails beaches. Conditions overnight were calm but cold.
