A chopper has been sent to help with the search for a group of rafters missing on the Hutt River.
The Wellington Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched about 9.45pm.
Police are also at the scene.
A member of the public called police about 8.40pm to report his friends hadn't returned from a rafting trip, a police spokeswoman said.
Search and Rescue crew members are gathering details about the equipment the missing people have with them.
