Police have released the name of the man whose body was found washed up on a beach near Waihi on Sunday as the search for his friend has been called off for the night.
He was Yingbo Xu, 28, from Hamilton, who had been fishing with a friend earlier in the day.
Meanwhile the search for Xu's companion has been called off for the night and will resume today at 8am, Waikato Police senior sergeant Simon Cherry said.
Shoreline searches had been carried out today, along with several flyovers by the police Eagle helicopter but the man had not been found.
Police started searching for the missing man after his companion's body was found washed up near the rocks at Homunga Bay, north of Waihi Beach at 2.30pm on Sunday by a father and son who had been fishing together nearby.
